Mark has been a management consultant for twenty years, working extensively
with industrial companies in strategic planning, organization redesign,
self-managing teams, total quality, and organizational communication.
Consulting Experience
He has led a number of organizational redesign efforts since the early 80's,
creating team-based structures, reengineering processes, coaching managers
and training teams to make the transition. He works at all levels of the
organization, from senior management to the front-line workers, creating a
high-commitment, high performance environment.
His consulting work includes:
- Facilitating strategic planning retreats for management teams for clients
like Combustion Engineering and ABB
- Guiding reorganization or new plant startup design projects for clients
like Sara Lee Hosiery, AT&T, R.R. Donnelley, Sumitomo Electric, and James
River
- Developing performance improvement and large change strategies, like Total
Quality for clients like R.R. Donnelley and Titeflex
- Training and facilitating high-level, cross-functional project teams that
develop specific strategic or tactical plans for clients like Dexter and
Karl Schmidt Unisia
- Coaching executives, managers and team leaders using 360° feedback for
clients like Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals and Dexter Nonwovens
Teaching & Writing
Prior to consulting, Mark was the Planning Assistant to the Chairman of the
Board of McM Corporation, a small insurance conglomerate, where he focused on
strategic planning and new market development.
Mark has also taught on the adjunct faculties of the College of Management at
NC State University and at NC Wesleyan College. He is a contributing author
to The Marketing Handbook, published by Dow-Jones Irwin.
Mark is the author of two other books: The Adventures
of a Self-Managing Team and Mastering Team Leadership:
7 Essential Coaching Skills. His Team
Training Modules have been used by thousands.
Education
Mark holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina and a BA from Wake
Forest University. He is one of the few remaining natives of Raleigh, North
Carolina.
